Is Self Care just Caring for Ourselves?

Self Care is the new black these days. The whole world is going strong on Self Care. We need to take care of ourselves, and only then can we extend that care to the outer world, other people, our families, homes, and society as a whole.

But if we do not know our SELF, how can you take care of it?

Who are we? Why are we here on this Earth? What is the purpose of our lives?

These questions go as old as life itself! As human beings, we have questioned the essence of our existence. We struggle to understand ourselves, our motives, impulses, desires, and instincts.

When we talk about ourselves, it can mean anything from our physical bodies, our social self, our spiritual self, or our real self.

The Journey of Self Care

The journey of Self Care begins with the process of Self Discovery. A person is an amalgamation of emotions, thoughts, behavior, motives, experiences, society, etc.

The list is endless. Philosophers and scientists have agreed that a person is his Mind, Body, and Soul, which are impacted by many things and people around us.

A Healing Process

Self Care is a healing process, when you lend yourself the care that you need, tune into your emotions, understand how various experiences make you feel.

Some experiences give you mental clarity, others might relax you and yet others might motivate you.

While on this path of self-discovery, we need to tune into WHO we are, WHAT we like, and HOW we came to be our present self.

Our childhood experiences, concepts of comfort, and relationships can have the key to our healing and growth.

We Cannot Ignore the Negative

Focusing on positive experiences is important. We need to indulge ourselves in feel-good experiences, our passions, and hobbies.

There are some experiences that are unique to you. Those will bring you joy, like gardening, music, nature, animals or art.

But we cannot ignore the negative. After all, it is the balance of these forces that give you the perfect sweet spot!

We need to challenge ourselves, our emotional, mental and physical blocks, our grudges and our doubts. We need to face our demons.

Meditation, positive self-talk, digging deeper, opening communication, questioning our own selves are a few methods that have proven to be helpful while dealing with difficult issues. Once we understand the negative, it becomes easier to let go.

But What YOU Cannot Change, YOU Accept.

Acceptance is an integral part of Self Care. Accepting that you are human, and you will err.

That you are not perfect and you have fifty shades of grey within you. Getting comfortable with the flawed you will bring a unique bliss that lightens the soul, making us happier and more content.

You might break resolutions, and promises, or might fall back into your old negative patterns, and it's okay to do that once in a while. As long as you accept those, and move on.

We need to learn to keep ourselves first. We need to give our SELF that space to grow, evolve, and flourish.

A seed needs sun, water, air, and soil; but it also needs love and attention. Only then does it develop into a fruit-bearing, healthy tree.

Its time we all blossom into our greatest versions as well!
